Calling All Holistic Business Professionals!

Friday, April 27th, 2007

smiling_business_team.jpgAre you an enlightened entrepreneur, holistic business support professional, spiritual coach, or lightworker looking for a place to post and read business building articles?

Are you a healer in need of some direction from the pros about growing your business?

If so, you’ve got to come on over to Holistic Business Networking.

I’ve added some features to the Holistic Business Networking forum. As an active member of the forum, you will be able to add your article to our homepage as well as download articles written by other members. All you have to do is register, get active, and then email me your article. No cost whatsoever.

I’m also going to be highlighting moderators on the homepage linked to their Web site. So, not only do you have the potential to make new connections on the forum, but you are getting a backlink to boot.

The forum is relatively new, so there has not been a lot of activity, but more members will fix that! I really think this can be a great opportunity to network, learn, grow - and build bridges between healers and those that can support them.

If you haven’t checked the forum out, we’ve got topics specific to coaching, Web design and blogging, marketing and networking, administrative support, and bookkeeping. There are forums for specific healers to hang out with each other, as well as just some plain old fun and informative sections.

So - all that’s missing is you! Come on over and let us get to know you!

Tag - I’m It!

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

tag.jpgThere is an interesting blog tag game going around now “Where do you hang out online?”

. I’ve only just met Yara (turns out we have more than 1 mutual friend in this virtual world), but I’ve got to say I love her writing. Thanks Yara! Oh, you can read Yara’s blog here.

Anyway, the basic rules of this game are as follows:

  • Tell who tagged you (and by all means include their links),
  • Write a description of where you spend your time online (include links), and
  • Tag some more people.

I spend a lot of my online time at the Virtual Assistance Chamber of Commerce. Not only is it the best online resource for VAs, but for anyone interested in working with a VA they’ve got a ton of information and a directory. FYI - it’s not easy to get listed in the directory, so you’ll only find the top-notch professionals there.

My new favorite place to hangout is turning out to be Holistic Business Networking. This is a networking forum that I recently started and my main goal is building bridges between practitioners and business experts. Of course, it is specifically for those in - or those that work with - holistic businesses. If you fit that description - come on over and join - it’s free!

I recently discovered Lime.com. There is so much information there that I’m taking it in little pieces. If you are interested in healthy living, organics, green and sustainable practices - you’ve got to check it out. I actually plan on blogging about it in more detail in the future.

OK - got to do some tagging of my own.

Jenn Givler, J. Givler Coaching - I also spend time at Jenn’s online group Powerful Entrepreneur. Sorry Jenn - I’ve been reading, just haven’t had the time to post recently!!

LauraLee Sparks, The Simple Solution - LauraLee is a fellow Virtual Assistant and a real gem. Love ya LL!

I’m also going way, way out on a limb and tagging someone I don’t know. Or, I guess I should really say he does not know me!

Dawud Miracle - Healthy Web Design. Dawud and I have a client in common and I’m seeing his name more and more as the designer on some great sites (Mark Silver, Judy Murdoch, and my client Matt Hugg). His blog is awesome. ALL BLOGGERS need to especially read his post about the nofollow campaign. I’m going to install the plugin as soon as I’m done with this post (oh, and after I email Dawud to introduce myself and let him know I’ve tagged him, I sure hope his reaction is not a groan to be heard ’round the world).

So - hope all I’ve tagged have the same fun with this as I have and hopefully I’ve shared some resources here that you find useful.

Earth Day 2007

ednlogo.jpgCelebrate Spring and make a difference!

What a wonderful time of year to celebrate Mother Earth. I love Spring. It’s a time for naturally happening new beginnings and a great opportunity to make some changes for yourself.

To find out what local events you may be able to participate in go here. You may just want to plug in your state, if you put in your zip code, it won’t bring up local events outside of your immediate town.

One of the tips and the big push this year to contribute to not only more conscious living, but more money in your pocket is to switch out your light bulbs. We did this at home (which also includes my office) years ago and it makes such a huge difference. We change bulbs much less frequently and enjoy a savings on our utility bill.

Also, on the Earth Day Network Web site (just click on the Earth Day logo above) you can download various tips for what you can do at home and work and with your children to make the world a better place.

Make a change, every little bit counts!

Bump Up That File!

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

highlighted-folder.jpgWhere is that folder???

Do you have a lot of folders in “My Documents” and find yourself using a few of them quite often? Maybe you have to scroll for them because they are down a ways in the alphabetical chain? But you like to keep a tidy desktop and don’t like to create shortcuts for everything?

I’ve got a great solution for you.

Go into “My Documents” or wherever you have all these folders. Find one that you always have to scroll for. Click it once, wait a sec, then click it again. DON’T DOUBLE CLICK! Or you will open the folder!

The second click should highlight the folder name in a little box. Put the cursor in front of the first character and click - this should unhighlight the entire name.

Now - insert a space (hit the space bar) so that the first “character” is a space. You are renaming the file with the same name, just a space in front of it for those of you familiar with the process in renaming a file.

Click away from the folder to save the change - and WA-LA! The folder should now be showing first in the list!

Cool - huh?

Just don’t blame me if you do this with forty folders and still have to scroll!

This way, you can put a shortcut on your desktop just for “My Documents” or wherever you keep your most used folders and only have one shortcut and still save yourself a lot of time.

Clean computer desktop and a saved step - can’t beat that!

Oh, BTW - this works on PCs and Macs. I use a Mac myself for the most part and love to find tips that can be shared across the board.

Just a little side note: if you are a Holistic Business owner interested in networking - check out Holistic Business Networking. I’ll be sharing tips there too and be keeping my eyes out for specific questions about time saving computing tips. Believe me, being a Virtual Assistant has me always on the prowl for timesaving tips for myself and my clients!

Shy or Fearful?

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

shy-woman.jpgJenn Givler, (I’ve recently embraced Jenn in to my circle of friends) and I are having a conversation at the Holistic Business Networking forum about dropping the ball. I posed the question as to why we let it happen. Jenn commented that she has recently worked with some of her clients on that very subject - and quite often it comes down to fear.

I can relate to that. I have to admit there have been times its held me back.
All those what-ifs.

What if I start a Web site/blog/workshop/tele-seminar/newsletter and nobody shows up or signs up?

It’s not fear of the work involved in doing those things (well, maybe a little). The fear of failure can often times put us right there in the failure mode. Law of Attraction at its finest (or worst).

Taking steps and putting yourself out there is frightening - but it is so empowering when you do!

Check out Jenn’s article about promoting your Holistic Business and be sure to sign up for her newsletter.

And - get out there and show us your stuff!
