Stop Rushing Me!

We all probably remember what it’s like when you are a kid and can not wait till your next birthday. You always want time to go fast and to be older than you are. When you are 9, you can’t wait for the double digits. When you are 10, 11, and 12 - 13 is what you dream about. After that - it’s whatever age you can start driving, then voting, then drinking.

Well, as we (notice I’m including all my readers in here too) age - we want things to slow down. We want our own aging, as well as that of our children and grandchildren to slow down.

So, why is it that retailers (and - shhhh - internet marketers) rush us?

I was in the grocery store before Labor Day weekend - and they were setting up the Halloween displays!

I had a momentary panic - am I forgetting the date that badly?

I went to look for a new bathing suit in the beginning of August. Down to one rack - extremely discounted which would have been great if they had tops and bottoms that even came close to being the same size. Another rant - how can there be small and medium tops and only x-large bottoms? Yikes - please tell me I’m not built all that weird!

But, anyway, my point is - we all need to slow down. I know, especially as an entrepreneur, there is always this drive and the need to be working on at least your next 3 projects and have another 6 in your brain, but are you really enjoying any of them? Are you spending enough time to cultivate the maximum from each of them? Or are you rushing along just trying to get people to “sign up” and be damned if they are really going to benefit from what you have to say and sell? That may add names to your list - but not to the one of satisfied paying clients.

I don’t like to read the pushy, in-your-face, that’s-not-all-you-get sales pages myself. You know, the ones that tell you you only have a week to sign up. And if you wait that long, all the spaces may be taken.

I don’t do things impulsively, at least not when it comes to my business and spending hard earned money. I need time to roll things around in my head, plan, forecast, and make sure my heart, head, and stomach are in agreement.

Don’t rush me - you’ll lose me for sure. Slow down - make it worth my time, money, and thought.

AAAHHHHH!! Joy - a woman after my own heart. We have been talking about this very subject a TON in the circles I run in.

This summer, I finally had enough of the “in your face” gurus out there pledging that their system was going to help you get your business up and running and making millions of dollars in “no time.”

As an entrepreneur - claims like that just set my hair on fire.

Because my clients end up coming to me after purchasing said systems - and not making the millions that were promised.

    *sigh*

And - I agree - most of these systems are far from quality.

When will we get away from this instant gratification mentality??

As you said Joy, rushing through something… always focusing on what’s next, and not being present is the perfect way to NOT enjoy what you’re doing.

Life is about the journey. If you’re building a business just to make the millions - you’re missing A LOT.

Thanks Joy for this amazing, inspiring post. :)
