Earth Day 2007

ednlogo.jpgCelebrate Spring and make a difference!

What a wonderful time of year to celebrate Mother Earth. I love Spring. It’s a time for naturally happening new beginnings and a great opportunity to make some changes for yourself.

To find out what local events you may be able to participate in go here. You may just want to plug in your state, if you put in your zip code, it won’t bring up local events outside of your immediate town.

One of the tips and the big push this year to contribute to not only more conscious living, but more money in your pocket is to switch out your light bulbs. We did this at home (which also includes my office) years ago and it makes such a huge difference. We change bulbs much less frequently and enjoy a savings on our utility bill.

Also, on the Earth Day Network Web site (just click on the Earth Day logo above) you can download various tips for what you can do at home and work and with your children to make the world a better place.

Make a change, every little bit counts!

Bump Up That File!

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

highlighted-folder.jpgWhere is that folder???

Do you have a lot of folders in “My Documents” and find yourself using a few of them quite often? Maybe you have to scroll for them because they are down a ways in the alphabetical chain? But you like to keep a tidy desktop and don’t like to create shortcuts for everything?

I’ve got a great solution for you.

Go into “My Documents” or wherever you have all these folders. Find one that you always have to scroll for. Click it once, wait a sec, then click it again. DON’T DOUBLE CLICK! Or you will open the folder!

The second click should highlight the folder name in a little box. Put the cursor in front of the first character and click - this should unhighlight the entire name.

Now - insert a space (hit the space bar) so that the first “character” is a space. You are renaming the file with the same name, just a space in front of it for those of you familiar with the process in renaming a file.

Click away from the folder to save the change - and WA-LA! The folder should now be showing first in the list!

Cool - huh?

Just don’t blame me if you do this with forty folders and still have to scroll!

This way, you can put a shortcut on your desktop just for “My Documents” or wherever you keep your most used folders and only have one shortcut and still save yourself a lot of time.

Clean computer desktop and a saved step - can’t beat that!

Oh, BTW - this works on PCs and Macs. I use a Mac myself for the most part and love to find tips that can be shared across the board.

Just a little side note: if you are a Holistic Business owner interested in networking - check out Holistic Business Networking. I’ll be sharing tips there too and be keeping my eyes out for specific questions about time saving computing tips. Believe me, being a Virtual Assistant has me always on the prowl for timesaving tips for myself and my clients!

Shy or Fearful?

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

shy-woman.jpgJenn Givler, (I’ve recently embraced Jenn in to my circle of friends) and I are having a conversation at the Holistic Business Networking forum about dropping the ball. I posed the question as to why we let it happen. Jenn commented that she has recently worked with some of her clients on that very subject - and quite often it comes down to fear.

I can relate to that. I have to admit there have been times its held me back.
All those what-ifs.

What if I start a Web site/blog/workshop/tele-seminar/newsletter and nobody shows up or signs up?

It’s not fear of the work involved in doing those things (well, maybe a little). The fear of failure can often times put us right there in the failure mode. Law of Attraction at its finest (or worst).

Taking steps and putting yourself out there is frightening - but it is so empowering when you do!

Check out Jenn’s article about promoting your Holistic Business and be sure to sign up for her newsletter.

And - get out there and show us your stuff!

5 Years in Business!!

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

5candles.jpgHAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO A CAPITAL SOLUTION!!!

5 years today! Whoop-EEEE!!!

I’m finally feeling the transformation from the larval stage. Do you know what I’m talking about?

Thanks to a great group of Virtual Assistants over at the Virtual Assistance Chamber of Commerce and especially Danielle Keister I have a much different business than I did 5 years ago (heck, even 1 year ago). Danielle really was instrumental in pointing out better, smarter, and wiser business practices! Thanks Danielle - I could not have asked for a better mentor and friend (geez, I’m getting choked up, now I know how why actors blubber on stage when accepting awards!).

Oh, and of course, if it wasn’t for the support of my husband I never would have had the courage or finances to plunge right from full-time employment to full-time business owner.

So, all in all, I am one grateful gal!

OK, I was talking about transformations.

Take a caterpillar for example. You can’t point at it and call it a butterfly. Under the right conditions someday it will be, but the universe throws curve balls. It needs to evade predators (in the VA world there are people who prey upon new VAs), have the right weather conditions (good vs. bad business decisions), and a little bit of luck (good friends, family, and mentors).

I am so happy to have entered into this new stage of my business (my wings are almost dry) and am thrilled with my decision to work within the Holistic Business community.

One of the things I’m most excited about is the launching of the Holistic Business Networking forum. My vision is to provide a warm and comfy spot for like-minded business people to share, grow, make new friends, and prosper.

Here’s to the next year - Cheers!

Holistic Business Networking

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

As promised, here is my “special” announcement for the Holistic Business Community:

Introducing . . . The Holistic Business Networking Forum

Namaste ~~

Yes, there is a brand new forum in town and it is specifically for business owners who are in or who specialize in providing support to those in the holistic/healing arts/ alternative medicine/green and sustainable living businesses.

This is not a list serv type group, but a very interactive forum designed to promote camaraderie, sharing, business growth, networking, and relationship building. There is absolutely *no* cost to join or maintain a membership - except for your time.

It’s brand-spanking new and promises to be a wealth of information to those of us who prefer to conduct business in perhaps a more purposeful way than traditional practices operate.

Our mission is to provide a warm and nurturing environment, as well as a “you asked for it, you’re going to get the truth” that is necessary for you and your business to prosper!

Spamming and ad blasting will not be tolerated, and those who do not share in the same values will not be eligible for membership. What this means is that we’ll have a group of serious, dedicated professionals all together in one place!

Please, take a trip over to Holistic Business Networking, register, and see what it’s all about!

Feel free to pass this invitation along to anyone you know who may benefit from this community.

I hope to “see” you on the forum!

So, that’s it - I am going to be marketing this pretty heavily over the next weeks/months. If you are an expert in a topic you see on the forum and are interested in some opportunities I may have - please register and drop me a line and let me know.

I’ve taken it this far, and I’m very happily putting all kinds of time in to it - but it’s for all of us.

I found the internet community to be lacking in this sort of thing for “us” and set out to do something about it.

Just don’t be shy - come on in and help build bridges!

I really do hope to meet you and get to know you better!
